Upscale meets vegan in Ravi DeRossi’s latest East Village venture, years in the making and the product of passion for a plant-based diet. DeRossi’s success with Avant Garden’s predecessors (Cienfuegos, Amor y Amargo, Mayahuel, et al) has proven undeniable, and the newest installation seems to be no exception, winning over the city’s toughest critics and vegan foodies alike. The intimate space sets the stage for the kitchen crew’s vibrant, colorful compositions, taking the general population’s perception of vegan cuisine to new heights with dishes like farro risotto with butternut squash and sage pesto, a “tartare” of beets and mango, and a variety of vegetable-topped tartines, to name a few. Whether vegetarian, vegan, or just adventurous, Avant Garden is certainly worth a try. Contact your Attaché for reservations and more menu picks.
