Not quite lunch, not quite breakfast: brunch has quickly become a staple in the NYC weekend diet. Add these five hotspots to that never-ending brunch list for a guaranteed Saturday or Sunday afternoon well spent – and fueled by mimosas, of course.
Wherever Chef Marc Murphy goes, we’re sure to follow. Kingside at New York’s über-luxurious Viceroy hotel serves a killer combination of mix of Italian and French cuisine with modern American influences. With a diner-like open kitchen studded with red leather counter stools atop subway-inspired tile floors, this spacious Midtown hotspot is the perfect brunch destination – and conveniently, they’ve just debuted their new menu. From cold-pressed Liquiteria juices and inventive brunch cocktails (hello, maple bacon bloody) to sweet and savory standouts (lobster cobb with a side of lemon ricotta pancakes, please), we can’t argue with Kingside’s brunch game.
124 West 57th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues
The Standard Hotel East Village boasts the neighborhood’s best in dining, and that’s no easy feat. What makes Narcissa worthy of this prestigious title? Aside from having powerhouse André Balazs and Michelin-starred John Fraser behind the scenes, Narcissa’s intimate spaces offer brunchers the choice between a chef’s counter view, the ever-so-quaint dining room, and the ultimate al fresco experience between its two breathtaking garden spaces (weather permitting). The simple, healthy menu features farm-fresh provisions from local producers, plus a handful of craft brunch cocktails and pitchers. Not that we don’t love a good mimosa, but it’s always nice to switch it up for a tall blueberry lavender G&T.
25 Cooper Square between Bowery and 4th Street
This Danny Meyer spot is the total package, offering spectacular views of the park coupled with rich décor -- but their eclectic brunch menu is what truly brings this trattoria together on a bright (or blustery) weekend afternoon. Nick Anderer’s Roman dishes steal the spotlight as they float around the spacious dining room from kitchen to table, scrambled eggs al cacio e pepe and ricotta pancakes landing before diners’ eyes left and right. With breads and pastries baked in-house and the famed malfatti (the latter available only after 12pm), Maialino’s brunch is not to be missed.
2 Lexington Avenue between 22nd Street and Gramercy Park North
Upscale yet unpretentious: the perfect way to sum up Locanda Verde. Tucked into a cozy TriBeCa corner shared with Robert de Niro’s 88 room Greenwich Hotel, this versatile spot is perfect for brunch with the family, friends, or a romantic day date. Menu favorites range from savory to sweet effortlessly with Italo-American favorites such as uova Modenese to lemon ricotta pancakes and a standout hazelnut-crusted french toast with citrus and mint. Cleanse the palate with a fresh cold-pressed juice -- or a second helping of pancakes.

Can’t get enough when it comes to eggs? Well, today is the luckiest of days, because Egg Shop is on the same page. Scrambled, poached, fried, boiled, or sunny side up…this NoLIta eatery serves up America’s brunch staple in more ways than imaginable around the clock. Take a crack (pun intended) at the El Camino bowl with shredded pulled pork carnitas, cilantro, and fried tortilla, topped (naturally) with a poached egg. Sandwiches take the traditional bacon/egg/cheese combo to the next level with variations on the favorite for every palate – and gluten free muffins as an allergy-friendly vessel to boot.
